Premarital Counseling

A couple shall meet a pastor for several times before the wedding for pre-marriage counseling. According to the governance of the Presbyterian Church (USA), the minister is responsible to bless and approve each wedding he/she officiates; therefore, you must meet with your minister before your wedding date can be confirmed. Our pastors use two popular resources with couples to help them build a good foundation for a joyful, caring marriage for the years to come:
Prepare/Enrich Relationship Assessment Inventory is a customized
couple assessment completed online that identifies a couple's strength
and growth areas. It is one of the most widely used programs for premarital
counseling. Over three million couples have used it since it was developed
by a University of Minnesota professor. Our pastors are trained, experienced
Prepare/Enrich facilitators.
Growing Love in Christian Marriage is a popular book designed to
encourage discussions by the couples on a wide range of topics (click
the book title to see the topics in the book’s table of contents). The United
Methodist Church thinks so highly of this ecumenical resource that they
have published their own denominational edition of it. Our deacons provide
gift copies of this book to each couples as one of the ways that our church
supports marriage.
The pastor may ask another professional counselor to do premarital counseling, in which case the couple is responsible
for the charges.
