Family Promise Hosting Week: January 10 - January 17, 2016

Want to see the Family Promise Network in action?
Check out the Family Promise Blog and the Family Promise Devotional.

Included below is a brief description for some of the various roles. If you are interested in any of these roles or would like more information please call or Email Jen Miller.

Dinner Preparers (volunteer in advance of 6:30 p.m.)
We need dinner prepared on the Sunday and Saturday of our hosting week.
St. John the Beloved graciously hosts and prepares dinners Monday through Friday.

Dinner and Evening Hosts (2-3 volunteers, 6:30-8:00 p.m.)
  • Dinner Hosts please arrive at 6:30 p.m. and remain until after dinner has been cleaned up.

  • Evening Hosts can arrive for dinner or just come from 6:30-8:00 p.m. It is a wonderful opportunity to socialize
with our guests and offer assistance with homework or conduct an activity, such as a board game.

Overnight Hosts (2 volunteers, preferably a man and a woman, 8:30 p.m.-7:00 a.m.)
Two hosts spend the night at the congregation. Overnight hosts spend time with the guests and are available
n case of emergency to contact necessary parties. They wake with the guests at 6:00 a.m. Some overnight hosts
also may set up breakfast.

Van Driver (daily Volunteers, approximately 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.)
Each day during the hosting week the Family Promise insured van will transport guests to and from the Day Center
each morning and evening in a 15-passagner van. Insurance requirements to drive the van are 30-75 years of age along
with a safe driving record.

Other Volunteer Opportunities
If the above volunteer positions do not fit into your schedule, there are plenty of behind the scenes roles:

  • Launderer - each host week, one or two volunteers wash the overnight hosts' and guests' sheets.

  • Setup and Teardown - Volunteer teams set up the accommodations on Sunday afternoon and
help take down and move the beds the following Sunday to the next congregation.

  • Day Center Volunteers are invaluable additions to the Network day center. In addition to providing coverage
when the Network director is out, they help guests and the Network director with many daily activities.

There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex. While there are names already on the sheet, there is still a space for you!
